UAES PARTNERS WITH NDDC ON FOOD PRODUCTION IN IMO STATE

The University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences , Umuagwo in further push for food security in Imo State and keeping to the original plan of the visitor of the institution and Governor of Imo State ,His Excellency  Sen. Hope Odidika Uzodinma  and the proactive Ag.Vice Chancellor , Prof. Christopher Chiedozie Eze are set to  reached an agreement with Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to provide over 200 hectares of land for cassava production in the state. 

The Niger Delta Development Commission and University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences have been in talks over the commissions proposal to use the institution as a site for an Agric project by the commission for the people of Imo state. These engagements climaxed on 3rd  July, 2024 when the land inspection team arrived the institution to inspect the available tractable land and to make sure the said land is not encumbered . The Ag. Vice Chancellor and members of management took the team to the proposed site and had the Cordinator of works unit , Engr. Tony Ogbuehi point out and explain the proposed land for cultivation to the team. 

Earlier in negotiations, the NDDC contractor had explained that the project would be a full chain activity from cultivation to food production as well as marketing. The development promises to improve drastically on the current food production in Imo state with its spiraling effect convincingly pulling down food price in the market.  The Commissioner representing Imo State in the NDDC board , Hon. Kyrian Uchegbu in his speech appreciated the Ag. Vice -Chancellor for his proactive efforts in making sure the commission secured the land for cassava production whilst promising to make sure the project is carried out to the world best standards and to see to it that only the best roots are cultivated to ensure maximum production . 

Prof. Christopher Chiedozie Eze in his reaction assured the commission of his willingness to engage in any meaningful partnership for the good of the university and the state in general. He commended the commission for choosing to come to the university as its nomenclature suggests it has the best hands in agricultural research and would surely bring its wealth of knowledge to bear during the time of the proposed project .  He also encourages the commission to come to the aid of the university in any way they can as an agency of the federal government. Only but a few details need to be ironed out in a short time before  the project takes flight.
