TEAM ENGINEERING WINS MAIDEN UAES INTER-FACULTY TOURNAMENT

The maiden Inter-Faculty Tournament of the University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (UAES) Umuagwo, has come to an end with the Faculty of Engineering taking the first position.

The tournament is an initiative of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christopher Chiedozie Eze, aimed at promoting sports development in the young Institution.

The University came to limelight in sports activities at the recently held Governor’s Cup where it trounced Team Alvan (Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education) three goals to nil. That was remarkably its first outing as a football team in less than three years of the institution’s existence.

The initiative to play an inter-faculty tournament, according to the sports coordinator, Kingsley Okafor, is the Vice-Chancellor’s idea of discovering sports talents in all the five faculties of the University and improving physical well-being.

The result of the tournament made available to UAES MIRROR shows that Team Agriculture and Environment took second, Team FAMSS clinched the third position while Team Science came fourth. Mr. Okoroafor promised to present the victorious team to the University Management upon resumption in 2024.

Meanwhile, sports development has further received a boost that will see every student making choices on what to play. For instance, the lawn tennis court has been fully refurbished and will be functional as soon as activities resume. There are plans to activate the volley ball court and some indoor sports activities as soon as possible.

The compelling move by the Vice-Chancellor to develop sports infrastructure in the young University underpins the dictum that truly, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Besides, sports provides a healthy option for students and staff to relieve tension and radiate good health.
