UAES SIGNS STRATEGIC MoU WITH ICAN

The University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (UAES) Umuagwo has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Owerri District and Society.

At the ceremony which took place last Wednesday at the institution, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Eze, expressed joy at receiving the ICAN team. He made it clear that the University under his watch was open to business with professional bodies since the institution cannot be an island.

The Professor of Agricultural Economics recalled how a similar MoU with a foreign University is already beginning to yield fruits. He therefore challenged the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to explore the possibility of building a Centre of Excellence in the University.

He also informed his visitors that the young University is already playing a leading role in an European Union project on digital financing among Nigerian rural farming communities, adding that his administration is poised to explore viable linkages with other institutions to make the University a better place.

In his response, leader of the ICAN team and chairman of ICAN Owerri District and Society, Mr. Samuel Asikaogu, expressed the readiness of his organization to forge a lasting relationship with the University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Umuagwo. He added that the Memorandum of Understanding with his group would create a pathway of professionalism for Accounting students in the institution. He further stressed that the envisioned partnership with the University would create room for students of Accounting and Taxation to qualify as accountants before their actual graduation in the institution. This would be done through the introduction of relevant professional Accounting curricula that would be integrated in the course outline of the students.

High point of the ceremony was the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) where the ICAN team leader, Mr Samuel Asikaogu signed on behalf of the organization, while Dr. Chidinma Ozuomba and Dr. Christian Chima signed on behalf of the Accounting and Taxation Departments, respectively. The process was supervised by the Registrar of the University, Prince Edward Njemanze.
