I HAVE NOT BEEN THIS CELEBRATED ON MY BIRTHDAY, SAYS UAES VC

It was a harvest of encomiums last Monday as members of staff organized a birthday ceremony in honor of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Chiedozie Eze.

The event came as a pleasant surprise to the Professor of Agricultural Economics and lawyer, as the staff literally ambushed him, chanting the popular happy birthday song.

He would later meet a crowd at the entrance of his office as the chanting of the birthday song gathered momentum with two saxophonists joining the fray.

There was a beautiful cake already laid out on his office table waiting to be cut. Emotional and speechless, the highly elated Vice-Chancellor could not believe his staff would express so much love towards him.

While the ceremony of the cake was yet ongoing, the crowd grew in number, prompting relocation to the Senate Chambers.

Speaker after speaker bore eloquent testimonies of the sterling character and achievements of the Vice-Chancellor.

A song rendition was made in his honor by the University Librarian, Prof. Mrs Chidi Nwosu . There was also a poem presentation written in his honor by the acting University PRO , Dr. Iwuji Ugochukwu.

When the toast was eventually proposed to the health and prosperity of the Vice-Chancellor, the crowd went agog with celebration.

In a brief speech, Prof Eze confessed that he had never been that celebrated on his birthday. He reckoned that he had earlier received numerous gifts from his children that day only to arrive his office to a full blown celebration.

He thanked the organizers of the event for finding him worthy, praying that God rewards them for their gesture of kindness. He also promised to work even harder in moving the University to greater heights.

The prayer session at the event was led by Rev’d Mike Okoro of the All Saints Anglican Chaplaincy domiciled in the university campus.
